This is almost as unfair as the 'American cars are crap' posts. How is it possible to recall more than they sell? (although I can't say I disagree with your sentiment!)

Actually you should check your facts! US car companies like ford are assembled in mexico or Canada. The Japanese are assembling almost as many and probably more that the US manufactures very soon. The only people that make money off of the domestic cars assembled in the US are the white collar employees. The most US part content that I personally see in cars and trucks that carry a US brand where I work is 85% and by law that does not make it an official American car! The cars ford is selling as hot new products are 35-40% US part content the Fusion, Milan and Zephyr. Oh by the way if you are boycotting France or Germany as part of the stupid idea that they did not support the US in the current Iraq war you might be surprised to know that the trans or engine in your luxury SUV was probably made there.

What an interesting statement! maybe its the American road conditions or something, because that certainly isn't the case in Australia, Toyota is right up there as one of the best, safest and most reliable cars on the market.
I have a Corolla Seca limited edition, 1990 model, and with regular servicing, and maintenance, and timing belt changes at the appropriate times, it still drives like an almost new car, and has 320,000 ks in the clock.
I wouldn't swap for any other car....although I don't use it for super long distances now, as I think its earned a bit of a rest from those.
I drive a Honda CRV for those (All dirt roads)

I really never was a math enthusiast, but how can you recall more than you sell? And why do you think that the money leaves the NA economy. All those dealerships get their cars either by truck or trains(US) and they build dealerships using American contractors, and pay employees who eat American food, brought from US grocers. Plus, when the USA which I love, can build a car that gets that good gas mileage, then more people will buy American.

Since only the engine and tranny of my Tacoma are Japanese, and it was fabed in Fremont, CA...I'd say that I'm supporting the US economy by fueling US jobs, service, and finance...WTF cares if the company is Japanese owned? My truck is 85% American...majority rules. BTW Toyota only recently had it's first recalls..compared to "US" automakers who have been recalling for SERIOUS issues for years and years. Oh yeah, I do own a Chevy too, so am not all that Toyota-biased.

Not true. Of all the brands out there, Toyota is the most reliable. In my family, we own 3 Toyotas. My daughter's 92 Camry still runs wonderfully and makes a nice, solid sound when the door is closed. I've seen much newer cars by other manufacturers sound like old cars when closing the door and require major maintenance. Not with any of our cars.
The Camry for example, is made at a large auto plant in Kentucky and is one of the largest employers of American Auto workers.

Are you mildly retarted?
I would prefer an automaker who will admit and fix a problem for free rather than an american mfg who will make an excuse for the problem and refuse to fix it. (piston slap, oil burning ect) Do you realize that Toyota has enough cash on hand to buy ford and GM and is worth more than 3 times the value of daimler. It got here by building RELIABLE long lasting vehicles. The Unions have killed the american automaker, they will never recover.

hardly any car is perfect and gm cars have been recalled much more than import cars. My older model toyotas held in in resale value more than others. Of course most older cars have been fixed from previous recalls compared to new cars whoses bugs and imperfections have not been detected yet. .

You are an idiot. A toyotas resell is 10 times that of any domestic car and it rides better, have you ever driven a camry? an avalon? Lexus? then get in a domestic and you cannot say you like the ride of your mailibu or monte carlo better.

Because they will last for 300,000 miles or more before they crap out....and because the Toyota Camry is one of the safest cars around!
Not all the money leaves our economy.
Can you support your claim?

Because they are still better than Chevys?
Besides, if they recall more than they sell, are they recalling the ones that are not even built yet?
