Going steady is when you're dating a person for a significant amount of time, as boyfriend and girlfriend. If you're going steady with someone, you're not seeing other people.

it means you are dating only that person. People used to date more than one person at a time, so they could learn what other people are like, not like today, when if you date one person, you are automatically only allowed to go outwith that person. That's why people today are so screwed up. they don't learn diversity. Oh, and people didn't used to sleep with people they dated all the time either. Sex was an afterthought to a relationship, not a precursor
