Every winning team has to have luck. Italy is no different. Even so, it was a poor World Cup overall and when the standard goes down it allows teams that are less than stellar (hello, Greece at Euro '04) to triumph.
I certainly think Italy '82 would rip that Italy '06 to pieces even if Zoff is now 64.

I can see you are confused about the meaning of the word "luck." I will give you a few illustrations. It will help you understand what "luck" is all about :
1. France went to the final purely by luck.
2. The BaldHeaded Bull won the Golden Ball purely by luck.
3. France's qualification into the 2nd round was another luck factor.
4. France's 1998 World Cup victory was "clever" luck (here you have to realize that cheating and brivery can determine your luck).
5. Last but not the least, that France even qualified to play in the World Cup was Pure Luck.
PS: Forgot to add # 6.That France won a pentaly against Portugal was another luck.

Partly luck and partly skill. I didn't want Italy to win. I wanted a humble underdog to win. Italy as many of the top teams are not humble teams.

luckily won the group, remember usa-italy game?, had a easy 2nd round compared to france. they absolutely robbed the aussies, ukraines were easy, and germany finally saw up 2 the challenge but were a minute less fit.
now france, had 2 get his team prepared in the first round, (ok ill prepared) but gained better in each game. they finally clicked in the last game of the group stage, defeated a great scoring spain team, favorites brazil, and a good portugal team.
u tell me.

I think so. They could have lost to Australia, but they got lucky that they were awarded a penalty kick at the last minute. France looks really tough, but it looked like Italy deserved to win

yes they were very lucky cause they didn't have tough games especially that czech republic wasn't in form so the world cup for them started in the semi finals. they just had to play 2 tough games at the end though they played well in the last 2 games it wasn't really fair cause other teams like portugal had tougher games against netherlands & england then lost with a penalty kick against france.
