Well, there is an old tradition of "readers theater". It's a collection of actors who simply sit on stools and read scripts out loud for a small audience and the author. Often there are several authors who want it and it's typically just scenes. Feedback follows.

That's a very good way to get started. If you can't find such a group, not even at the local college, then start your own. Put it in a bar and have tuesdays be reading night for an hour then let them wimpy poets have a crack at the mic.

Another way is to get your script done by a local college. Theater schools often embrace the idea of making a new work and teaching the process of re-writes. If I recall correctly, Best Little Whorehouse in Texas came out of a college.

And last of all, go to college for it. The big key is to get your work out there. Shopping it about may work but I think it's much better to actively be working.

That is assuming you are already working at your craft.

break a leg.

Just to clarify, the correct spelling of someone who writes plays is playwright. Why, god, why can no one get that right? I would suggest enrolling in a playwriting class or degree program, and submitting your work to festivals and competitions. There are zillions of them listed on the web.

Do you mean beccomign a playright? Or acting. Each is difficult and I would start with school plays and community theater.

Well if you are a good writer and you are known for your plays, try writing yourself into a play and see if it's ok with whoever casts your plays

Know playwrites, and pick their brains. I know one... Jonathan dorf, look him up online. He has a website... www.jondorf.com/ Look around, I think he'll help you. Email him and ask him this question. He's a Harvard Graduate, Ibelieve. I took a master class from him (Theatre major) and read one of his plays... they SEEM corny- and they are- but he knows what he's talking about.
