SMURFETTE, and several smurfs??

Good question...I never thought about that when I was a child. Where did those little blue creatures go anyway? Did that mean old Gargamel finally get them? Smurfette was a rarity. Her presence was probably created to keep down complaints about there being no female characters on the cartoon. Also a female smurf probably helped with the marketing to little girls.

According to the original comic book Smurfette was a creation of Gargamel to lure and capture the Smurfs, but he made her very ugly and none of the Smurfs would pay any attention to her so she felt miserable. All the Smurfs felt pity for her so Papa Smurf gave her a magical 'make over' and was invited to live in the village.

Actually, wasn't there once a contest Smurfette had with some other smurf chick on a loom?
Also, they're like spores or Gremlins, if they get wet--pop!
And what color will a smurf turn if you choke it?

Papa Smurf in an early episode magically created her out of another smurf making him more loving and caring and oops female.
