To Windows XP prof or home edition? And how would you do that? Could you just install the XP the new XP over the Media XP?

You CAN downgrade if you originally had Windows XP before you UPGRADED to MCE.

You CANNOT if you didn't.

You CAN install Windows XP as a fresh installation.
You might want to try a repair as that might change it to XP Professional.

Switching to a different version of XP wouldn't be considered a downgrade as such because it's still the same OS under the hood, so there's no way to make the move 'sideways' to a different version of XP while still retaining all your files and settings and installed applications. You can of course do a full reinstall of a different version of XP and carry on, but this will wipe *everything* you've currently got on your machine so back all your stuff up if you're going down this route.

Johnny F disk time, wipe that hard drive clean and start all over with XP Pro. Don't use Home, it's garbage.

i think you can just install the XP that you want to go to, but why would you want to?
