My roomate at the time was attending classes at Purdue when the towers were hit. He and his friends claim they saw numerous students wearing tee-shirts with a picture of Bin Laden and the quote "this is only the beginning".

I haven't heard of that. The attack on 9/11 wasn't common knowledge, so I doubt many of the students knew it was coming. Besides, all those students in Osama tees would certainly cause suspicion, especially after the second tower was hit.
So I seriously doubt it.

I was attending Purdue during 9/11. No one was wearing Bin Laden T-shirts. Like the rest of the country, we shocked, appalled, and saddened by what happened. Personally, I was at a job fair that took place in the center of Purdue out on Memorial Mall. Being one of the main areas of Purdue, I can tell you first hand, that your roommate is lying to you.

I live in Lafayette, near where Purdue is, and I have never heard anything like this. Indeed, I still have a copy of the 12 September 2001 issue of the Purdue Exponent (campus newspaper), and if anything like this was true, I would bet credits to navy beans that it would be in that paper.

I'm guessing that your former roommate is either mistaken or pulling a terrible joke.

Its possible but I doubt it. We weren't even sure it was Bin Laden who did it on eleventh were we?

I say its more likely they were wearing anti - Bin Laden shirts. I saw a lot of those a few days afterwards. Like a picture of Bin Laden with a target over it or something like that.

Never heard that one, but it's highly unlikely and just a rumor to make the college more interesting or exciting.

Because I think more than them would have noticed and reported, because obviously those students would have been "IN" on it and taken for FBI questioning.

Urban Legend in the making. ;)

Never believe everything a roommate tells you. College makes the truth optional, it always has even in 1960s..
