I think the cat would scratch the crap out of you as you are trying to tie the bread on it. In the process the bread would tear into pieces, of which these small parts would fall to the floor - butter side down. The cat then would begin to eat the bread from the floor, while you are tending to your wounds.

Don't mean to be a stick in your buttered bread, cat theory but...I was watching Mythbusters and they totally busted the buttered bread thing. Sorry :( You'd just end up with a cat that looks stupid because it had a piece of bread tied to its back.

The cat would land on it's feet and your buttered bread would have cat hair on it.

The cat would shrug his shoulders and walk away with a new treat, first teaching the bread to land on it's feet(you know how cats like to play with their food) then slowly take bites of it to taunt his stuffed animal and fridge magnet foes.

it'll land sideways, halfway to the feet and halfway to the buttered bread, after spinning ofcourse. Or maybe there's just a 50% chance of each

hehe.. somebody asked this a couple weeks ago. Apparently you'd have found a new source of energy, or have created a perpetual motion machine, because the buttered bread cat would be perpetually spinning in midair.

Your cat would bend around in mid air and eat the bread before reaching the ground.

That's too complicated. Just put a thick coat of butter on the cat, throw it out a window, and see what happens!
