Should I go there with U.S. $ instead?

I would bring American dollars. They are accepted everywhere and you can also exchange them for colones. You will have a difficult time if you bring Canadian dollars.

Of course, your best payment option is a major credit card. For the small incidentals, I recommend you bring US currency because there are more places to exchange it for Colones. Many restaurants and supermarkets, and virtually all hotels, will accept/exchange dollars. With Canadian, you will have to exchange at a bank.

use visa ck. card it will give bank rate of exchange. it's good to have a credit card in case you loose money or ck. card.
