If you have them up for everybody to see then anybody can take them. You will have to go to Flickr.com or picturetrail.com to have a locked account.

If you put your pictures up on the net on any site for people to see then there's no way to stop people downloading them. In fact people literally download a copy onto their machine every time they view your page, or anyone else's for that matter, all the files are stored on your browser cache. There's also no real way to stop people just taking them right off the page, Flickr does a decent of hding them but you just need to save the page off through Firefox and the image is right there. Or you can just screenshot your entire browser window and crop it down to get the picture. There's loads of way to do it basically, and none of them take more than a few seconds.
So, the short answer is, if you want to be competely sure no one can use your images: dont put them up on the internet.

'watermark' them is the only solution - use a graphics program to plaster your ID on it somewhere.
see the pictures on my yahoo 360 page for examples, there's nothing to stop images with names on from being 'cropped' to exclude areas with names but this is beyond most people.
as for in-built protection, there's no such thing.
