I have my first tattoo about two weeks ago and I love it. I plan on getting more, and loving them as well. Now, the main reason I hear people agrue against it is "you will regret it when you are old." Who decided that having a tattoo as an older person looks trashy? Also, do you realize HOW MANY of my generation will have tats and be listening to rap and heavy metal when we are like 80? You ever think about that? And, I know body's change for the worse as they age, but your body is going to look shitty all around anyways. And, mine are not going to be all over my face or something, and I don't plan on prancing around in my bikini when I am 80 and wrinkly! I have many pericings as well. I say live with no regrets, because if you were able to take something back, maybe you wouldn't be the same person you are today. Well...I guess I am just sick of the "anti-tattoo" folk. Anyone agree with me?

Wait until I get fat and old? All you've done is go back to the exact point I was rebutting. Weren't you listening?

Also, tat's can be touched up. I plan to take care of mine so they continue to look great through the years.

Welcome to the club. I got my first one over 20 years ago and I haven't turned into some kind of mutant freak yet (not because of the tattoos, anyway). For every thing you can do in life there will be some who oppose it. Those people ought to concentrate their energy on themselves because most of them are just lost little sheep too afraid to do anything without approval from their peers.

Getting a tattoo is a personal desicion. I have two and am getting my third Saturday. I've had my share of people tell me I'll regret it, but I don't think I ever will. Each tattoo I have represents a part of my life. I put a lot of thought into each one. If I reach the age of 80 I'm sure I'll have more important things to think about other than the fact that I was inked. I don't care what people think about my tattoos now and I'm pretty sure I won't care when I'm older. Congrats on your new artwork.

I have a few of them. I have had them for over 20 years now, and I don't regret it one bit. My niece is 19, and she just got her first one. The only thing I worried about, is I was young when I did mine, and I just let her know that who she is today is not who she is going to be when she gets 30 plus. Luckily mine are reminders of certain times in my life. I also told her not to get one too small, that it might end up looking like a big mole from a distance. It turned out great though.. Congratulations on your first, and be careful, they can be addictive. LOL

Yeah... it sure seems that way sometimes. what we are also experiencing is a cultural change of acceptance to tattooing and piercing. When people are talking about things like this, they are basing it on the norms that the country has followed in the past. When things change as they have, you see more business people with long hair (guys), more executives with tattoos, even though they may not be very visible, and other such things as this. It is your choice what to do with your body and what is acceptable for you. don't sweat it, but if it bothers you, don't flaunt it.
My kids are very happy with the ink that I have... it's tasteful and has meaning for me and my family. I think one common misconception is that people are getting tats without thinking about it first. I have had mine for about ten years, and I wouldn't change it for anything.

i def agree with you, my dad has at least 10 tattoos, and NONE of his are trashy, he had a portrait of my brother and i done on his forarm by an artrist named Deano Cook. he was amazing., it cost him a couple thousand.. but its beautiful. And if tattoos are done correctly, into a deep enough layer of skin, they do not fade or blure and smear nearly as much as people would have you believe.AND they definately DO NOt turn green.... a tatto is a part of your spirt, your life, i mean.. would you go back to the first time you rode your bike, and not ride it just because you fell off and scraped your knee, and it left a scar. Its just a part of you. its completely fine if someone dosent want one. but to degrade people that do get them, is completely unneccesary. there are doctors, lawyers, and scientist with tattoos, are they trashy? they are an important part of society so if tattos were that bad, dont you think they would refrain from getting one?

Lemme guess- you wanted to get a tattoo because you wanted to be different and express yourself. HELLO! Everyone has tattoos now. The only thing it expresses is that you're an idiot. And it definitely doesn't differentiate you in any way since so many people have them now.
I feel for you that you didn't have enough forethought to think about how it might affect your image in your career, with future partners, family, etc. I also feel sorry for you all that you don't feel like you're enough without marking yourselves with ugly ink.

Preach on my tattooed sister! I agree with what you're saying completely. I've got 6 tattoos so far and plan to get lots more (one tomorrow!) and don't really give a hoot what people think of me. If anti-tattooists don't like 'em so much, DON'T GET 'EM! But don't hate on the people who love 'em!

Its not a big deal but it is pretty much permanent - wait until you get fat and old and it looks like crap - you will be so proud of it! They also turn green with age.

one reason peole say youll regret it when you are old, is because,, when you are old, tatoos mainly just look like big black blobs,,,you can really no longer tell what they used to be,,,
