Unless you are expecting a storm, or, will be away from the pc more than a couple days, it is not necessary to turn your computer off. Think about what happens when you bend a metal hanger. If you do this repeatedly and frequently, it will break. The same thing can happen with circuits that are forced to heat up and cool down too frequently. Just turn off your monitor. If there is a security concern, you can set your default to auto shutdown after a period of idleness.

I always is better to shutdown the computer because what happens on windows is that, they haven't programmed it so well. Each time you turn on the computer and opne programs, even though these programms have been closed, but memory is still used up, so each time you hibernate, the memory is not freed, this data is still there using your memory, making you system run slow.

But you can sometimes hibernate because it has an advantage:
1. if you leave your document open and didn't save it, and hibernate your computer, it still stays there and when you start your computer, it starts very very quickly.
2. To be honest with you, i haven't shutdown my laptop for about 45 days now, always hibernate. But i think now it is time to shut it down and restart.

I very seldom hibernate mine... usually shut it off.

If you jus thibernate it, the same process in memory will remain there and you need to purge this out to make your computer more efficient

I always shut down completely to make sure that no one attempts to access it. Once, before I started doing this, I had my computer switch back on at 2 a.m., and it reported that a user was trying to gain unauthorized access. So now I don't take any more chances.

It's better to shut it down. It gives it a rest, prevents it from overheating, and it's overall better for the health of your PC.
