You are getting $125 off the price. You need to determing what percentage of $500 is $125. Now comes the part that always confused me. To do this you divide 125 by 500. The answer is
.25 or 25 percent discount.
You can also save a step by dividing 375 by 500 which will give you a result of .75 or 75 percent. Then you just turn it around, if you are paying 75 percent you are getting a 25 percent discount.

$500-375 = $125. The VCR is discounted $125.
$125/$500 = 0.25 or 25%. The percent discount is 25% or on sale for 25% off.

Okay lets first check your temperature. If it is over 103 get to the hospital immediately. If not check yourself into a mental hospital. First of all $500 for a VCR? Back in the day new VCR's did not cost that much. And if you are in need of a VCR buy the DVD/VCR combo. You can get them for $199. So you dont really need to know the discount now. And you can tell everyone you have good news you just saved a lot of money on a new DVD/VCR player hahahhahahahha.
