Do you think that there should be a number for the amount of times a person can get married and divorced – like say five times? For example, say a woman (or man) goes and gets married five different times to five different people, and then gets five divorces. Do you think the government, church, or whatever power should keep track, and then not allow him/her to remarry?
Now, I am ONLY speaking of divorces caused by one leaving the other, not like if one dies or anything – that would not count. They could still of course date and stuff, but they could not marry – even if it was only temporary like a year that they could not or something. I am not saying I think this is how it should be, just curious as to your thoughts on this. Do you think this is a good idea or not? Tell me why...

I have never thought of anything like this but it might be good idea......why is it so necessary to get married anyway? If someone has done it that many times, they are not taking it seriously anyway, so why let them do it again?
But think how much money lawyers make from divorce - they would never let it happen!

Well of course that wouldn't "count." That's not a divorce, that's a widowed spouse.
I don't see why there should be a limit. If you know your boyfriend/girlfriend has been married that many times before, it's still your choice to marry or not. Live and let live, I say...

My thought on this is that it should be harder to get married than what it is. People should be required to take marriage classes for at least a 6 month period before they can purchase a marriage license and get married. They need to be taught how to have a relationship with each other and learn about each other. To many people just do it for the wrong reasons. I believe that many people, midway through their marriage classes would call it quits and not tie the knot therefore eliminating the pain of a divorce. The whole process now it taken to lightly.

Any time the government gets involved with personal affairs, public outcry rages. (Even if it makes perfect common sense... you've divorced 7 times, do you really think this one will be any different?)
Here's my question... if you know you're fiance had been married 2 times or 3, or 5 or 7... why would you continue to move forward with getting married? That just seems like baggage, and a bad track record. Not something I would bet my future happiness on!
Still, I think states requiring pre-wedding counseling or some other form of 'do you know what you're getting yourself into etc' is something to be looked at. It takes more skill and training and knowledge to get a driver's license then a marriage license.

It's a free country. You should be able to get married and divorced as many times as you want. I think it's B.S. about having 18 month seperation laws and the other nonsense... How about saving some lives from domestic abuse and allowing people to get divorced in 30 days like Nevada does.
Doesn't that make more sense?
Seperation of church and state. I don't want anybody's church influencing the union- Christian, Jew, Hindu, Muslim whatever.

It would be nice before you got married that you and your soon to be spouse had to take classes on how to make a marriage work! Then maybe all these 5 minute lasting marriages would last longer. People live in the moment these days and see divorce as an easy out instead of making the marriage work.

marriage is for life not fun. dont get married unless you intend to spend the rest of your life with your spouse.
divorce is costly and can become very nasty. YOU could lose everything. marriage is not a game to be entered into lightly.
iff you get married in a church you also have to get a divorce from the church as well as the state. some times the church decides not to grant the divorce and you cannot get remarried in the church.

Personally, I feel that people rush into marriage and then give up too soon when they start having problems. The government makes it too easy for people to end their marriages. I am not religious, so I don't see marriage as a Christian joining or whatever (even though it really is), so I think it's smart to live with your partner and get to know their habbits before legalizing yourself as their spouse. At least this way you don't wind up wasting tons of money on a wedding and all that comes with divorce.I don't think there should be a limit, but I do feel that it should be made harder to get divorced. Maybe then people would think twice before knotting the noose.

You can get married as often as you want. But you should make it expensive to marry and cheap to divorce. The #1 cause of divorce is marriage!

I dont think anyone should tell you how many times you should be marrying , though it isnt uncommon these days for people to have been married more than once not saying five times but sometimes things just dont go according to plans
