I heard that planning on how and when you have sex to get pregnant can slighty change the odds of having either a girl or a boy. True? And how on earth does that work?

A guy named Dr. Landrum Shettles wrote a book called "How to Choose the Sex of Your Baby." He says that Y sperm are faster, but die quick, while X sperm are slower but longer lived. He says that if you time intercourse with ovulation, the Y will beat the X to the egg, and you'll get a boy. Have sex about 2 days before you ovulate, and the X sperm will still be alive when the egg enters the uterus, and you'll get a girl. There are also ideas that what you eat can influence your baby's sex, b/c it skews the chemical balance in the reproductive tract to favor boy or girl. Caffeine and sodium are boy-friendly, while calcium and magnesium are girl-friendly.
Whether or not this works depends who you ask.

there is a theory that timing can increase one gender over another "not 100% accurate". For it to be effective you must know when you ovulate "most women don't know". If you have sex 3 to 4 days before ovulation up to 24 hours before ovulation it favors a female it's thought the female sperm are stronger but, slower so in theory the males are dead only the females are there to catch the egg and strong enough to get in. Next for a boy have sex the day oF ovulation to 24 hours after BECAUSE the boys are very fast swimmers so they will get there meet egg before the female sperm. It worked 4 me "though as i said there is no guarantee" My daughter i onl had sex 2 days before ovulation. This pregnancy only the day of ovulation and the next day WE ARE HAVING A BOY.

I plan on trying this in a couple years to have a boy...I have 3 girls. If you have sex after your period up until the day you ovulate in your cycle you are more likely to conceive a girl. If you wait to have sex until the day you ovulate and the days afterward you are more likely to conceive a boy. You probably will need to buy an ovulation kit to be able to determine what day you ovulate on, and chart your cycle for a couple of months. Good luck! It works because boys are faster but die off sooner, and girls are slower but live longer.

Yes it's true and it has worked for me and a few of my friends. Female sperm are longer living than male sperm so for a girl you should have sex the 4th and 3rd day before you ovulate and then abstain for the next 3 days so that only female sperm are left when the egg is released. For a boy you would want to have sex withing a day of ovulation, since male sperm are faster and will get to the egg faster.

I have never heard that, but have heard that if you want a boy the man needs to where boxers stop drinking and no pop for at least six months, my parents had four girls then did that and had a boy!
My husband and the rest of his family swears to have a boy you need to knock the bottom out, still don't get that one.

haven't heard anything about it, but it seems highly improbable. People have always tried to control this, but it should really be random since the world needs near an equal ratio of both to function properly. The only really effective way to insure one sex or another is through a clinic, but again I don't think this is something people should have control over.
