For example "Hotel California" and "Zombie"(by The Cranberries) refer to 1969. And I'm sure I've heard more... Do you know why? Is it just a coincidence or 1969 is symbolic? Pleaaaaase help!!!

I think it's actually 1916 that's referred to in Zombie, but somebody asked me the very same question recently. My Dad tells me it was the best year to be a young adult because of Woodstock and so on....
There was a song called 1969 by Iggy Pop, a 1969 by The Vines...1969 Again by Adam Ant...
It must have been the best year for music

1969 -- a lot was happening, in fact changed the world. It's not symbolic on the surface it was a time period when individuals believed that they could make a difference in the world by voting and protesting and speaking out.
Check out 1939 some time.
# Destry Rides Again
# The Four Feathers
# Gone With The Wind
# Goodbye, Mr. Chips
# The Hunchback Of Notre Dame
# It’s A Wonderful World
# Mr. Smith Goes To Washington
# Ninotchka
# Of Mice And Men
# Rules Of The Game
# Some Like It Hot
# Stagecoach
# The Wizard Of Oz
# The Women
# Wuthering Heights
An explosion of great movies.
Mebbe it's the end of the decade and symbolic of a certain era?

The 1960's, although extremely turbulent (Viet Nam, riots, assasinations) was quite hopeful for a more loving way of life in the world. Reference to that year being long gone is probably a way of saying that it was a time of "innocence lost', as 1969 was the last year of the 1960's. It wasn't just the end of a decade - it was the decline of a way of thinking about the world. It was very idealistic, but not sufficiently realistic, and it is gone forever.

its the end of the 60's...peace, love, all that jazz. once the 70's hit, flower-power died out for sex, drugs, and rock n' roll life of excess...which then peaked in the 80s greed generation.
