Body is about size of a bumble bee - about 1 1/4" long.

It is almost certainly a humming bird moth though there are several varieties. We often get them in our garden and seem mostly to go for the same colour flower. They are very precise and meticulous, going from flower to flower as if numerically controlled.
Which country is this?

It is a hummingbird, but I don't know the name. There are many varieties. Why not get a good bird book, at the library if you don't want to buy one and check out the pictures.

If you go to your local library, they have great books in the childrens section on Hummingbirds. My son did a report on them. If you need futher help, go on the internet and reserach it through google.com

Do you have a picture? It sounds like a brown bodied, sphincter ringed sapsucker.
