knowledge is power, if you're hungry for the illusion of that kind of power.

I've noticed that there are a number of individuals, who will post gobs and gobs of text from an unknown source, simply because they can not articulate an answer in their own words.

Also there are some people who think that just dropping in a link to another site that may or may not have the answer is the solution to the question.

Are these people just lazy or naive?

Why is it so difficult, to post an answer in your own words as you might interpet your sources of information. If you're right and your reply makes sense, then you may get the 10 point reward.

If you're just going to pollute with gobs of pointless text or useless links that only distract me from my question, especially if they are phony links with nothing to do at all with my question. Why even bother replying to a question. Just type yes or no and move on, if you have to.

Tell me about it !

Or using phrases from the bible to ignore the question and just answer random nonsense.
Or using wikipedia for a huge article when you answer the question in the freaking first sentence.

Some people are ignorant and stupid, we can't change that!

Perhaps those link droppers and in general people who cite a lot of reference sources are looking for an easy 2 points (here) and/or are perceived by you to be lame. They are providing you with information, are they not? It should not matter in what form the information is there for you. Maybe you are the lazy one who cannnot be bothered to go with what they give. You don't want to research? You want spoon fed? I never cheat in answering any question. I am a person who does not know everything and I am always honest about that but sometimes I know where to try and seek an answer and I'll suggest. There are some individuals who just cannot keep a lot of data and elaborate concepts in their heads. Some can and appropriately discourse on it. It's intellectual variance.By the way, I like this question...

Though I have to agree with you it is not cheating nor laziness. Sometimes it is easier to point to a vendor's link than trying to explain. They usually have step-by-step instruction on how to fix a problem and can give more suggestions to fix a problem.

I don't care for people who copy and paste from wikipedia or one of the other sites. If the person feels that is the answer just post the link and I wil figure it out for myself. In the process, I might learn something else.

Do you wish an answer to your question or an answer to your rant? Since you are not able to respond in a timely fashion (my time) I will answer both. No, I do not cheat in answering questions. I enjoy thought and seek questions which I find intellectually stimulating. If one enjoys thought, to utilize other peoples thoughts in there entirety would be inane.

As to your rant, to classify people as lazy or naive is probably limiting the field and is definitely displaying a tendency by you to focus on the negative. People answer questions in the fashion you mentioned because they can. They are not worried about your perceived slight nor your judgment. Therefore, you should remember to only ask a question if you are willing to put up with the answers.

If someone asks for an opinion or a judgment there is something to write about.

If the question needs a 10 pages ,you paste a link.

I don't understand this obsession with the points ,it is of absolutely no use but the point of answering is adding to the question.

Okay, well here's the kettle calling the pot black. Why is Yahoo! Answers cluttered with inane, and sometimes downright STUPID questions like "Where can I find information about (insert item)?" HAS ANYONE HERE EVER HEARD OF GOOGLE???!?!?!?

If someone gets an answer that's just pasted from a website, too bad! You call it lazy, but it's the other way around. Someone who asks something here who could have gotten it in 30 seconds from Google is the lazy one... or a moron.

I think some of the people may have had the same question at one point and did a seach. So they (re-)posted what they may have found.
