What wold happen if you removed the glass sphere around a Plasma Ball, and attempted to use it?

not much, those "plasma" balls are not anything very special, and they're certainly not very powerful. if you touched the top to someone you might give them a decently painful shock, but without the gas inside the glass sphere you're not going to be shooting lightning bolts.

The display in the plasma ball is due to the rare gases inside. Remove the glass and the gases disperse and nothing happens. At most you would have a electrically charged object exposed to the fingers of the curious. I'm not sure what the charge is.
