It would be a little silly. The level you're at has nothing to do with your intelligence. Some pretty brainless people are at the top level. Mostly it means they have too much time on their hands. You might be missing out on some better answers from people who are on lower levels because they have a life, or a job.

No it never hurts to ask. But what difference does it make anyhow? The levels only mean you have or haven't answered questions it has nothing to do with any kind of credit or anything like that. Maybe you are looking at them as if you are competeing with other users, but that isn't the case at all in all reality. Everyone will eventually get to the levels of others with time and the questions they answer. So levels mean nothing more then having answered questions and big deal you get a few BEST ANSWERS for 10 extra points, it doesn't mean you are any smarter then anyone else either. It simply means you have been using this service long enough and often enough to build up your little points. 2 points for each answer. WOOPEE!
