I've heard about those sex change operations, and all that transsexual stuff. Do they actually hack it off or something, or do they do something to make the penis into a vagina? I was listening to a classical music CD, and the artist was "Wendy Carlos", who used to be "Juan" (I looked it up). It's a "girl" now. Did Juan/Wendy get it's penis hacked off? It seems like such a final decision, and the people who want those surgeries obviously aren't of sound mind. My other question is: Should these surgeries be made illegal? This is pretty wierd stuff.

There are the stories that 'outies are made into innies', but those are mostly stories, although parts are retained. In many, perhaps most, yes, it is lopped off. Some of the spongy material that swells in an erection may be saved, along with some of the skin to make the labia, the lips. A piece of the head becomes the clitoris. The nerve lines are sometimes saved for the new vagina's physical sensation, you would then have the same things that felt good on the outside helping you feel good on the inside. Some used to, I hear it is a very limited practice these days, lop out a section of your large intestine to make the vagina. Others use the penis skin and perhaps a graft or two from elsewhere. Still others turn the scrotum sack inside out, sorry, outside in, of course the testicals are discarded and sack hair removed. Some muscle is moved around, the urinary line plugged in and you are set.

Please don't worry about the surgeries being made illegal, they are very well controlled and no one undertakes one without at least a year, sometimes more, of preparation. It absolutely isn't for everyone, and most everyone isn't in the slightest interested. But if he can't stand being a he when pretty much all 'his' life he's really felt like a she, then why stop her? If she can't stand being a she when pretty much all "her" life she's really felt like a he, then why stop her? (Female to male is an even harder thing to do) Sure its strange, but how strange would you feel if you looked in the mirror expecting to see a man but that was a woman looking back at you, or vice versa?

In the male->female surgery, the male peices are removed and some are used to creat the female peices. From a medical standpoint, many of the tissues are basically the same stuff anyways. As for the sound mind part, the people that get this done ARE of sound mind. In fact, it takes the approval of multiple shrinks before the surgery can be performed to make sure that it is in the best interest of the person. And NO, it should not be made illegal. Just because something seems "weird" doesn't mean it should be illegal.

Transsexuals undergo major surgery to have the penis turned into a vagina, they may also have facial feminization surgery, breast enhancement surgery, as well as extensive body and facial hair removal treatment (electrolysis, laser or ELOS), not to mention lifelong hormone treatment, psychotherapy, deportment, speech therapy, make-up lessons, and scalp hair implants.
A transition is not for the cowardly, and from your remarks I guess you are one of the latter.
Most people only complete their transitions in their late thirties and later. A few years ago the gender team at Amsterdam operated on an 80 yr old transgender, who even though at an advanced age was delighted to have at long last to have a vagina and finally to be the women she had felt she was for all her life.

There's a saying in the sexual diversity communities---

"Your kink is not my kink, but your kink is OK...." Not a bad general rule of tolerance to follow, in a lot of settings.

I don't understand why people like/don't like get turned on/off by a lot of things, but if it's limited to consenting adults (in the case of sexual behaviors), what's the issue?

Heck, some people adore eating raw oysters; myself, I am so NOT going to eat anything that looks like I suctioned it from a patient's airway, but if you enjoy it, fine.....your business, not mine. So the "raw oyster rule" gets used a lot....

In regards to the specific question: yes, if it's a male-to-female reassignment surgery, there is some massive surgery where the penis is deconstructed to form a functional vagina, and where nearby tissues are reconfigured to form female genitalia.
(Females who are transgendering to the male format get phalloplasty operations, where an artificial penis is constructed.)
The overall appearance is very realistic. One of my postoperative transgendered friends (male-to-female), during a physical with a new MD who didn't know her history, said in response to "when was your last Pap smear?" that she'd never had one.
The doctor said "up on the table!" in a voice that didn't give her much time to explain....and he's poking around, looking for her cervix, saying "your vagina is a little small; are you a virgin, by chance?" (She was in her 40s at the time.) "UUh, doc....there's something BIG I've gotta tell you about my background....:" He was apparently fascinated by the quality of the surgical work that had been done.
In terms of the "sound mind" of people who are transsexual/ transgendered: it's not just a matter of waking up, deciding you're in the wrong physical form, and running down to your friendly local hospital. Every TS/TG I know of has gone through extensive psychological screening and counseling to check for major psychological imbalances. Most clinics working with sexual reassignment cases require people to "live in role" for extended periods (like a year or more), dressing and taking on social behaviors as much as possible, before they'll even consider doing major body modifications.

no fat dumb bastard, they do not get a 'lop-it-offa-me',... the penis is cut and turned inward and if all gos well they will be able to have feeling and even orgasms...

you actually disgust me with your lack of decorum and genaral ignorance more than your namesake 'fat bastard'....

as far as it bieng illegal,...no single person on earth would go through such an expensive and scary surgery if they truly didnt feel that that is the body they feel more comfortable in and the person they truly are...

they are of wayyyyyy more sound mind then you for sure.......

They actually turn them inside out.

Illegal? Why? If a man wants to be a woman or vice versa then why should we regulate that? They're not hurting anyone. And just because it's weird to you or you wouldn't do it doesn't mean you should make that a choice for someone else too.
