A couple quick internet searches suggests that it is the adheasive used in connection with the keypad...Apparently, Apple notebook keypads had a similar problem, as they were made by the same manufacturing facility in Asia (China, I believe).

Some people have complained that the keypad gets an odor after all the oil and dirt from your hands.

That obnoxious smell/odor is fieces, sh*t, bowel movement because the phone is sh*t. Just kidding. I have heard that though. The owner of the company that I work for had to take his back because it stunk and wasn't working right. Turns out the inside of it was actually slowly burning up because it was getting to hot. I know the phone looks cool, but, reliabilty is poor.

I had the same problem! It's the battery that has that smell. Take it back to your phone carrier, it can ignite easily.

Did someone do something to it?

Did you drop in the toilet (I know someone who did this and continued to use it)?

If it smells like burning, need to talk to a customer service rep.
