look up Data Recovery in you yellow pages, or do a google search for "data recovery" and include the area you live. It can be done.
- dont try it yourself, the recovery programs ussualy dont work on formats just on simple deletes

Im not sure about what he did, but if you reformat your computer, most usually it erases everything including all your pictures and word documents. Its like making your computer new. Unfortunately if you didnt burn your files and your pictures onto a disc before hand they may not be able to be retrieved, ofcourse I hope I misunderstood the question and that he didnt completely reformat your computer. I reformatted my computer and I didnt have a cd burner, I did have a couple of discs that I had from a previous computer with my old files but wasnt able to keep my recently taken pics or my poems that I wrote... Next time you reformat if you dont have a way of burning a cd of your files and the things you want to keep then try emailing them to someone you trust ( depending on what the files are if they are documents or pics then you can) I also had some of the recent pics I took on a photo site so I didnt loose the ones that I really wanted to keep...
Anyway sorry I couldnt offer much help, I hope that you find a way to find those files and that im wrong

there are unformatting programs, they cost a lot but maybe you can find a shareware version, don't know where however (google), and moreover they aren't 100% effective
