It depends where you go. Go to the national auditions in chicago, they take place in february.... Community college theatre? Not fun. But a really nice college with ar really NICE theatre program CAN get you employment (They iinvite the people you need to know to come see a showcase....)
North carlina.... go as a high schooler.
I have a friend at julliard, and she LOVES it.
Be careful, and be ready to be ripped apart.

I am not a theatre major, but I am taking an acting course. And it is anything but boring. We play games and act out scenes. Everyone gets crazy and has a lot of fun. We don't care if we look stupid, it doesn't matter. I really like my theatre class because it is a fun time in my day. Who would have thought that on a college campus there would be a class where you play games and just have fun. Its really like being a kid again.

Boring, no.... worth it? Well, like almost all liberal arts degrees, a theater degree on it's own will not lead directly to a job (if that is what you are looking for may i suggest accounting or high school teaching in math or science).
I was a theater major in undergrad (as well as an English major) and loved it. I still have two or three more years of graduate school before that degree is going to lead me to a life in theater.
The real question is what do you want to do in theater? If it's acting then sometimes (most of the time) the degree in theater isn't worth it... it's avoiding getting out there and auditioning auditioning auditioning which is also being turned away, being turned away, and being turned away.
If it's becoming a playwright then it's again a bit of a waste of time. If that's what you want to do then a major in English might be better, however many people say that going to school for creative writing is pointless because it's just learning how to write like other people and therefore stifling your own creativity.
Etc...etc....etc...
Every job in theater, just like any job in any artistic field, has it's ups and downs about going to school. So, what you should do is sit down and figure out what you want to actually do.
If you, like many kids do, are looking to go to school to figure out what you want to do, may I suggest going into school undeclared and decide through the knowledge of experience and the guidance of your professors where to go that would be best for you.

Theatre, boring?!!! I think not!!!theatre should be rated alongside bungee jumping as an adrenaline-producing sport! it really depends on you. if theatre is something you love, and have considered getting into a number of times, then do it. its always the ones who really love it who succeed; if you're one of those, it won't be hard finding work. If you're not really into it, or you have misgivings about it, don't do it, or perhaps attend a few classes. i was going to major, but could only do two yrs of it, due to clashes in my degree, but i loved every minute.i realised how much more attuned i was to theatre, and i haven't done too badly. if you're living in a country that has a strong theatre tradition, there are endless opportunities for you for to make use of your major in theatre. even if you don't go into theatre at all, its puts you at such an advantage socially, everyone will find you the most interesting person to talk to at a party! :) It makes you so much more confident of yourself, because you get to be yourself in drama and acting classes, there are no restrictions, i don't think i've ever been so at home in the theatre, and that's amazing for me, the girl who used to hide behind her mother's legs!!!Good Luck, and I sincerely hopes this helps!!!

Theater, like any creative feild is a difficult career to get into, so Majoring is good, but difficult to use unless you have a good plan ahead. It's a fun feild to study, alot of work and some boring parts, but overall a great deal of fun and well worth studying.
I am Majoring in Education (the typical arts minor) and minoring in theater, with the potental to get a BA in theater in the future.
It might be good to major in something else and minor in theater if you enjoy theater but unsure of the potental for use.

My daughter graduated with a degree in theater. She even interned at the Steppenwolf theater.
Be prepared for a life of poverty for a good LOOONNG time. Even prestigous positions don't pay squat. Even teaching theater pays lousy, but at least you genrally have health benefits if you teach.
If you can get into the Union, you get benefits. but if your income drops or the number of days you are working in the theater per year drops below a certain level, you are thrown out of the union.
Most theater people do without health insurance, cars, homes, savings, cameras, vacations, meat, vegetables, furniture, etc.
You do it because you can't imagine doing anything else. If you can imagine doing something else, you will probably quit.

Theater major is one of those careers that if it pays off, ... watch out ! However, it is a call ! You have to love it, because it has no value in the job market.

All actors think of are large, that's what keeps faculties and scouts in agency. suitable of luck yet I recommend preserving dozing pills and alcohol available while you're having a huge gamble your destiny on it. OFC the professor tells you what you pick to pay attention.. he desires to gets a commission on your next type.

It doesn't sound boring but I would think twice about it since getting a job afterward might be hard.
