I prefer to go with open source software and so recommend Sunbird from Mozilla (same people who did Firefox and Thunderbird). You can find it at http://www.mozilla.org/projects/calendar/ Aparently they also have a program that works with Thunderbird (the Mozilla e-mail client) that works similar to Outlook's invites, so that might work for you too if you are planning on using it for work. Otherwise just download Sunbird and run that at start up (add it to Start Menu -> Programs -> Startup)
I use sunbird all the time at work (until my new company makes me switch to MS software). It has calendaring as well as a task list that you can keep track of your progress on various tasks. I need to start using this at home, but I never remember to set it up...

What you can do is create Address Book database.
1. If you have Microsoft Access installed, you can easily create one using their template wizard.
2. After you create the database, create a shortcut for it on your desktop.
3. Then go to this folder on your C:\ Drive
C:\Documents And Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
4. Put the shortcut you created in the Startup folder.
5. Now, everytime you login the computer, the database will start automatically.
You can also use Microsoft Outlook Express, which is installed with your Operating System.

You can use the word processor in Microsoft Word to type in such information and name the file "My Address Book" or whatever you wish so you can open, reference and edit it anytime you'd like.
Bear in mind, this is NOT a secured document to create and you may have to burn the document on a CD/RW disc and keep it in a safe place.

I use Microsoft Outlook for email, calendar etc. It has a reminder feature that will pop up at intervals that you select. I think that Yahoo and Hotmail also have similar features.
