Not really. It is possible to use special software to read the HD sectors, and it may be retrievable if nothing was written over in those sectors, but that's the type of thing that the FBI would do. Basically you will have to retype the document. In the future, you don't need to throw away anything because almost all computers are large enough to store 1000s or more of documents. I still have some things like my English papers from 6 years ago. I only delete things that I know I will never need or want to look at again.

The only way when you empty the trash is to use a program for this purpose, normally they cost a lot, but maybe you can find a shareware one which can do the trick. It's not sure anyway it can restore your file.

Some files can be restored, some can't. I think you probobcaly can, I have before. Go to download.com, many many deleted+emptied recycle bin restore tools there. As long as you didn't shred the file with a file shredder.

If you remember the name of the file, do a search for it. Make sure you direct the search to your entire system. You might get lucky and find a copy of it. If not, the only other way is to have a proffesional try to recover it and unless your file is worth a couple hundered bucks to you, forget it!
