If you mean half of the distance remaining, you would never finish the race. You would start out with 100 meters, then have 50, then 25, then 12.5... but it would never reach 0. If you are taking half the distance from the beginning, it would be 50 and 50, so 2.

You could never finish the race as the distance to the finish line would get increasing smaller, towards infinity.
