I've been sober for 14 days with the help of Antabuse. My problem is, I'm having all kinds of cravings, and thoughts of going off the Antabuse, even thoughts of drinking while still on the Antabuse. I don't want to go to AA. Are there any tips you could share that will help me out here? And is this the hardest part? How long will these feelings last? Will I have to fight this the rest of my life? My drinking wasn't a terrible problem....yet...I drank about twice a week for the sole purpose of getting drunk...8-12 beers usually. I had a DUI last year in which I hurt the driver of the other vehicle. I couldn't completely stop drinking even while I was pregnant. These are just a couple of the reasons I don't want to drink anymore. Advice, suggestions, personal stories, web links, and other resources will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The reason I don't want to go to AA is that I'm not comfortable standing in front of a bunch of strangers and saying, "HI, I'm ________, and I'm an alchoholic. How negative a label is THAT?

The cravings will subside. It's bad in the beginning, but the longer you're sober, the easier it gets.

Antabuse can be a very motivating factor in not drinking. You also need to fill your time so you're not sitting around thinking about it.

Since I don't do AA, what I did was join several yahoo groups that dealt with recovery issues. The groups have some good folks that can answer questions and have files and links sections for further reading. Some will tell you that only face to face AA meetings will do it, don't believe them; I've got over 5 years now.

And it doesn't have to be recovery, find one you're interested in and get involved! I figure you're somewhat limited if you have a small child, online is a great way to get some interaction.

Honey I drink. I will be honest but you need to do what's right for you! and you're baby! I had a dui too so I quit driving. To be honest with you without being a hypocrite, drinking sucks and it's a horrible HABIT! It's like smoking. I have seen people die from drinking so If you have a family and any respect for yourself please stop. I don't have a family but I have a problem. i am the first to tell you! If you need to talk I am here. e-mail me. I have anxiety and depression and the booze just makes it all go away. I know this is the wrong way of thinking but, "JUDGE NOT LESS YE WISH TO BE JUDGED THYSELF"... I pray for you and feel bad because I know.
