What type of jewelry (necklace) would look best with a Halter style V-neck dress?

You really don't need one at all. There is already some "decoration" at your neck from the halter strap. And the V-neck draws it's own attention.

If you are set on wearing a necklace, try a Y necklace, pendant, or a lariat. The chain should be plain metal (silver, gold) and the only decoration should be on the drop. That way the attention isn't around your neck competing with the halter, but on the skin above the V-neck.

A halter neck already wraps around your neck so I'd be inclined not to wear a necklace at all - maybe a brooch on the dress if it's very plain.

If the neckline is low and shows a lot of neck/chest - try a small pendant.

Use earrings to add sparkle.

It seems like the halter top might be too busy around your neck to add a necklace. But if you must, then a longer chain, like 16 inches with something dangly. Or a long strand of pearls with a knot or double stranded.
