lol, i love egypt for more then the clothes, i want to see the people the pyrimids, the sphinx, and to live life a different way, more then just high tech stuff in america, also im part egyption so i wanna see my country but still dont' know if i should

I just came back in June from living in Egypt for a year. I read some of the other posts, and to some extent, you're all right. As a guy, I didn't experience the harassment that barkel described, but female friends of mine talked about it all the time. Many are generous and nice people, but there are also many that act horribly to women. They perceive foreign women to be all the things they've heard about and NOT the pure and chaste women in their families. Apart from that, it is pretty safe there. There are cops everywhere and if you're a foreigner, they'll often help you out. That's especially useful if you get into a dispute over a taxi fare.
When it comes to the clothes, I didn't see anything outstanding or unique there. Women with hijabs (headdresses) often wear modern clothes or just a galibiya(sic).
I wouldn't tell someone not to live there, but it's not for everyone. Read up, learn a few Arabic phrases, and stay away from Nile water unless you take a felucca ride. If you're interested in doing it, then do it. Better to have tried it and not like it then to spend the rest of your days wondering 'what if'. Ma el salama.

i think it's a great idea for you to move back to get to know your people, your language and your culture. I'm Egyptian and live in Canada and miss it so much.
As for females getting harassed. Of course when you go to Egypt you have to RESPECT the culture and religion. If your going out to dinner, dancing whatever and walking in a dark street late at night, OF COURSE YOUR GOING TO GET HARASSED to say the least! Cairo is considered one of the safest cities in the world and yet is has over 17 million people! Here in Toronto I don't leave my house after 9 pm alone in some areas for the same reason.
I remember I was walking downtown Cairo once and saw this woman wearing hot shorts and a tank with no bra!
Cairo is a conservative society, but all you have to do is go with the right attitude and mind frame and YOU WILL HAVE A BLAST!

I like Egypt, but I don't think I'd move there just for the clothes. Especially if you are a single woman, travelling alone, I would seriously weigh this decision.

Egypt (as long as you're in Cairo) is a thoroughly modern city. It would definitely be good for you to learn some Arabic before you go so you can get around easier.

i'm egyptian live in south of Egypt and supose to tell that you are welcome back to your home land and all that stuuf but let's be honestly, to move and live for 1 year, and leave your life and how you grow and your memories and all that stuuf.
to come just for hotter guys or nice food, this not enough good reason, to see pyramids and sphinx and all what you wanna see that not demand you come for 1 year. my advice to you if you not come here before and that is what i understood from your words that u not been here before. come make trip for some weeks, check it see how life going, how is the people around, feel the hot weather and the hotter guys, give yourself the chance to try and test it first before you think to move. wish you good luck.

i think u should totally come and check it out for a year come on egypt changed loads over past years .... i used to come here every summer break and it was something but when i can and settled here for a while .... its totally different...
