Just sit him down and be honest with him, I say communication will be the key to doing so.

Don't sneak and hide things of that nature behind his back be honest and tell him you no longer want to be married anymore and you are telling him to be respectful and honest to him,

Depending on whether you want to remain friends or have children involve should also be in your discussion.

If it's just you and him and you want to part as friends than make that clear.

If you have children and you want to make some type of custody and visitation arrangements discuss that to.

Now if your in a abusive marriage then you have to take all steps necessary to protect your security which you should have legal counsel to bring the divorce to his attention.

put his sh&t on the front lawn, and change the locks..

Kidding,

the best way is be upfront and tell him "this isn't working, and that you want a divorce"

Don't use the "I love you, but am not "in love" with you routine" that is a chicken **** way of handling it.

Have the papers ready.

If he is a prick have a 2nd person close by as a witness.

The best way is not to do it at all. Promises were made, love is a choice, not a feeling. So the best thing to do is choose to love him. If he's not giving you something you need, ask for it, or find a way to meet the need yourself. Who knows, if he sees changes in your lifestyle, that you're getting out and doing something with your life that you weren't before, he might get intrigued and want some of the action :>

Sit down with him and tell him you want a divorce... Sorry, there's no other way, you just have to tell him.

At the dinner table look up at him and say "Honey,I love you but I am too young to feel this old and I think we need to divorce, and find others that make us feel forever young"
It worked for me and now at 38 I am happily dating a younger man that makes me feel like a queen.

Honey, I'm not happy and I want a divorce. And then give him the reasons why, anyone deserves a least that much.

Sit down on a non-stressed day and have a calm discussion. Try to keep it clean and honest. Try not to finger point so he won't get into a defensive mode. Once that happens then a bad argument will begin.

Good luck.

There is just no gentle way to do it. And what ever it was that went wrong, it has probably been going on for a while and he will not be that surprised. Just say something like, "I have something important to talk to you about. It is obvious that neither of us have been happy..." and you know the rest.
