According to modern sleep studies those sleeping more than 7 hours (oversleeping) have a lower life expectancy and more health problems than those sleeping 7 hours.

Yes. Sleep when it happens when you don't want or need it can be a serious problem. People with the condition Narcolepsy spontaneously fall asleep and this can cause them to suffer auto accidents, fall down and injure themselves and disappoint their employers who may think they are lazy and unmotivated, which they are not, but suffer involuntary sleep because of their condition.
If a person does not have narcolepsy but sleeps more than 12 hours a day or sleeps at times when most of their colleagues are active, might actually be suffering from clinical depression or from a disease that causes excessive somnolence. Getting a medical or psychological examination would be a good idea if you find yourself sleeping too much.

too much of any one thing can be bad. If you wake up and your sluggish that means you are woken up during REM sleep, rapid eye movement sleep, which is a deep sleep that relaxes the muscles and provides adeqaute rest for the body. During a long sleep, you can fall in and out of this period, and then generally back into it, which when you wake up, will cause your body to move slowly, because it is in a state of deep rest. Its not bad, just doesn't feel right. A cup of coffee can perk you up. If you really want to benefit from sleep healthwise, take naps.

You probably get dehydrated while sleeping too long. Look at other reasons why you may be sleeping so long. Think about depression.Good quality sleep is good for you.You might run this by your doctor and see if he/she can come up with another explanation.
