You should clarify your question. Do you mean "Write 1/2 page about a historical period that you find interesting" or do you mean "Why are you interested in history as a subject?"
For the first, research WWI and the 1918 influenza epidemic and women's rights. The period from 1900-1920 or so is fascinating because it was the transition to the modern world. Look up things like the Triangle Fire (http://www.ilr.cornell.edu/trianglefire/) or Passchendaele (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/special_report/1998/10/98/world_war_i/203397.stm) . You should be able to get half a page out of either of those easily.
Me, I find history interesting because it's where we came from. Society and culture are built upon history. It's important to look back and learn from what we did right and what we did wrong.
