is a manager made or born?

Question

this kind of question has two sides. the side that suports that a manager is born and the other that suports that he is just made. so please give me a proper discussion.

Although some people are born with business skills, a manager is made. Even people born with natural business skills still need to refine them. This isn't really a discussion, but I believe it answered your question.

A manger can be MADE - if they are the right type of person.

But perhaps you sould clarify if you really mean a LEADER or a MANAGER ? A leader leads people, a manager manages an activity or process.

After 20 years in the software business, I'm finally caving in & getting lots of training to be a manager - I figure I can't make as much of a mess of it, as the people I've had manage my projects over the years.

But Project Management, is really "just" a set of activities, just like many other jobs. Leadership requires something different - some innate people skills, that it is hard (but not impossible) to teach.

In the end, it may all come down to your Myers-Briggs type. I'm an INTJ.
