the first answer is -35

the second answer is 4/5

here's why:

multiply both sides by 7
-5x = 175
two negatives together = positive

x= -35

multiply both equations by 5
x-1 =3

x=4

so x=4/5

In general for questions like this, you try to get x to be on one side of the equation and everything else on the other side.

To keep the equation from being changed you have to do exactly the same thing on each side of the equation, but you never can multiply by zero or divide by zero.

Be cautious when dividing by x, try to avoid it, since you don't know what x is it might be zero.

Problem 1)
-5/7 * X = 25 (the symbol * is used for times)

multiply on both sides of the equation by -7/5, note that when you multiply a negative number by a negative number a positive results.

(-7/5)*(-5/7)*X = (-7/5)*25
1*X =-7*5
x = -35

Problem 2)

x - 1/5 = 3/5 (add 1/5 to both sides of the equation)
x = 4/5

For those questions, if you've got the answers, just plug in the two answers and see which makes the numbers work!

-5/7 X 35 = 25
or does -5/7 x -12 = 25?

Can answer the question that way, faster than you can type it in!

-35 and 4/5

-5/7x = 25
divide both sides by x
-5/7 = 25/x
-5/7=25/-35

x-1/5=3/5
add 1/5 to each side
x=4/5

I would answer the question in the following way:
-5/7x=25
-5x=25X7
-5x=175
x=-35

x-1/5=3/5
x=3/5+1/5
x=4/5

1) x= 25*(-7/5)
Or, x = - 25*(7/5)
Or, x =-(25/5)*7
Or, x = -5*7
Or, x = -35

2) x- 1/5 = 3/5
Or, x = 1/5+3/5
Or, x = 4/5
