Because global warming is a gradual threat and not an immediate threat, a lot of people are content with burying their heads in the sand or coming up with convenient excuses.

The proof is extremely compelling but until the seawaters rise to the point of no return may be what it will take for people to finally wake up.

What people do not realize is that combating global warming does not require that we go back to the stone ages. We HAVE the technology now to engage energy revolutions that will allow us to have our money and gadgets but give nature a break.

It WILL cost a lot of money initially but what is the cost of a few billion dollars versus the loss of trillions later due to an unstoppable ocean flood? (It's Hurricane Katrina over again where we could have spent a few hundred million dollars to shore up the levees when we KNEW about this problem for years but now have to spend over 10 billion dollars and counting to restore New Orleans.)

Frankly, President Bush would rather play with his little toy soldiers in Iraq than tackle global issues because wars make for an immediate threat with a face you can see. Global warming is this huge faceless environmental issue that you can't face head on.

NOTE: I mean absolutely no disrespect to soldiers who have gone to Iraq, sacrificed so much, and continue to be there and give all... my point was to illustrate that George Bush really doesn't care about the lives he's throwing away in the name of a war we cannot win, in a cause we should never have allowed to get this far into. He's managed to con America into sacrificing a lot of lives, Iraqi and American but has been unwilling to spend even a fraction of that on areas that matter like fighting problems at their source, poverty, education, new energy instead of relying on oil.

No...global warming is not horribly being overlooked. It's a scare tactic to get people to change their daily habits so that it reduces CO2 emissions.

Personally, I feel sustainable development policies are horribly overlooked. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sustainable_development

I hate the fact that the issue of global warming is thrown around when sustainable development should be the goal. Global warming is one problem, sustainable development is a spectrum of problems. We'll be much better off if we'd just focus on sustainable development issues.

And by the way, global warming has nothing to do with volcanic eruptions, earthquakes and tsunamis. And if you ask 10 atmospheric scientists specializing in tropical cyclones whether or not global warming affects tropical cyclones, then you'll get two different viewpoints split evenly down both sides. This is because besides sea surface temperatures, there at least three other environmental conditions that affect tropical cyclones.

Global warming is a farce. Just like the earth revolves so does the wheather. I don't think this is such a big deal. Who takes CO2 reading in 1750? If CO2 readings are on the rise i wonder why, could it be the population of the world is growing @ a rapid pace. Also we need more animals to feed the billions. Which alos give off CO2. Get out there & enjoy the sun.

You are right that governments are more worried about money, because of course it is your money. Would you vote for a party that said it was going to raise taxes in order to spend more of renewable energy research, or was going to tax power or fuel to encourage you to use less? No, nor would anyone else.

Education is the answer, making people realise that their small changes can make a difference.

Some people, of course, go over the top, see link below.

I think there is too much emphasis being placed on it. Global Warming is a natural cycle the earth goes through on it's own. There is absolutly NOTHING we can do about it.

They stated that the earth has warmed up maybe one degree over the last 1200 to 1400 hundred years. think about that.... IT IS ESSENTIALLY THE SAME TEMPREATURE IT WAS 12 - 1400 YEARS AGO.

Global warming has occurred many times over before man was ever on the planet! Core samples form ice in the arctic and antarctic regions have proven this! Regardless of what we do, it will occur again! We may although be helping to bring it on quicker....

everyone knows it's happening so no it's not being overlooked. no one seems to care on a personal level. buying organic food, not littering, use less gas and electricity, use renewable fibers like bamboo for flooring and furniture instead of wood, using hemp and silk instead of wood are just a few things we could do as individuals. government is convinced it's duty is to worry about $$. mankind is not kind and thinks gov't is just going to wave it's $$wand over us all to fix us. not gonna happen.

Here's one interesting perspective on the question:

Basically, whether or not global warming is occurring, "if change is coming we can adapt."
