which one? there have been thousands in history. Probably the Crusades were one of the best known. Both sides considered it a holy war just as now some wars are considered to be holy wars by both sides.

War is not HOLY by definition. War is an abomination. Promoting war is like cursing God and the entire universe.
War kills innocent people. Some people just invented War to try to justify their sinful and greedy behavior.
Both side in the Middle East will claim "self defense" but no one really wants to sit down to the peace negotiations table to try to work things out. Therefore by their actions, they are showing their hypocrisy and deceitful behavior.

It depends on who you ask and what time period you're talking about.
Al-Qaeda would say we started it by "invading" Saudi Arabia when we built military bases there.
Other jihadist militants would claim that the loss of the Islamic Caliphate meant that local rulers were now making man-made laws (which is forbidden in Islam because it means you're assuming you know better than God).
