I went to the Air Force Ball last year. I wore a long black skirt. It was beautiful, floor length satin with a chiffon overlay. The top was a satin pink halter which had a pretty black belt that went around just under the breasts. I would not wear an old prom dress or anything that is to short. Just looks tacky. Since it is a military ball I would wear something that is floor length. Have fun and good luck.

It's just so, happens that I'm in the military too. I have been to some of the formal gatherings in the military and, I've notice that the women either wear semi long gowns or, "Conservative evening dress. By all means this is a conservative function so, NO LOUD WILD CLUB, or HOOCH-IE DRESSES!!
So enjoy yourself and, have fun it's a great time to meet other spouses and significant others.

A simple but elegant dress (cocktail-length or longer) is my suggestion. Or a classic silk pants suit. If you don't have anything suitable and have to buy something just for the occasion, please try to get something that can be used more than once. A fancy dress has very limited use, but a pants suit would have more options.
Probably best to hear from military wives what is appropriate attire at a fancy-dress ball.

If I were you I would probably wear a simple but elegant light brown chiffon dress that was strapless. If you can find it look for one with light pink ribbons or accents. Wear light pink shoes and do your hair up but a messy look. Look like you came from the beach. If you want to go all out and look flashy wear a camouflage gown! If you do you will be the belle of the ball or a complete idiot. JK hope this helps ya:)

Talk to the other ladies and get a sense of the average. Dress to compliment your husband's military colours. Feel right in whatever you wear...and have great easy non-hurting dancing shoes broken in.

They are formal. Wear a long formal dress. Good jewelery. Dress shoes. And don't wear tacky or sleezy because it will be the talk of everyone for years to come if you do.
I am a military dependent and have attended for years.

My husband is also in the military :) I would suggest a simple yet elegant gown, one that compliments your figure and skin tone.

a gown or a cocktail dress
if it says "black tie" -and your hubby is wearing a tux- you should wear a gown. David's Bridal has many.
if coctail attire is acceptable- a little black dress is the perfect solution.
hope this helps :D

ask the mice that will make your gown, or the fairy godmother that will give you glass slippers, or the pumpkin that will become your coach!
seriously tho, it's impossible to answer without more details like body shape, is it formal or black tie, will there be dinner or hors de houvres, your style (skin showing or demure)... too many open ends.
