I think revenge is a form of justice to balance the scale. Somethimes the law doesn't take matters into their own hand. I honestly feel that revenge is an ethical "right".

Taking justice into own hand. There is no levelage or scale what is appropriate and what is extensive.

That's why there are laws out there, it highlight and document all the major violations and there will be a punishment for that. Every law has written down what is the consequences if proven guilty.

By taking it to own hand, the matter becomes too subjective and the punishment/revenge becomes excessive as different people has different standard and values of what is ethnical right and fairness.

When you take revenge, the revenge has to be revenged, creating a vicious circle that will continue for generations and generations. The original reason for the revenge is soon forgotten
and people just fight because of the fighting, hating from the heart and never willing to forgive.

ethical right? I don't think so. It can be understandable to seek revenge but only in extreme cases but ethical, no way, never. Why do you think laws are invented?

Even though Cain was the first murderer, the Lord set a mark on Cain such that no one could take vengeance against him.

There is a big difference between revenge and retribution. In today's society, murderers spend a lot of time behind bars - but we no longer hang them. The death penalty exists, but takes too long to implement as a result of due process. One can't have their cake and eat it as well.

Vigilantes were glorified at one point in time, but not anymore.

Because it's negative energy and gives power to the one person or situation that has wronged you. You give them the upper hand when you show how much you're upset. It shows much more if you simple avoid them or the situation like the plague and go on your own way. Revenge is a vicious cycle you'll continue until you learn to walk away.

Most of the time revenge is acted out in haste and will be regretted soon after. Not only that, "justice" may be equal to the giver, but not tot the receiver. Who decides what is fair?

Of course, I just saw on the news that a well respected lawyer killed his elderly neighbor for molesting his two year old daughter. He stabbed him over a dozen times. Now, the neighbor may not have done it...there was no proof. But honestly, I think he is justified. The system would have let that guy out in a few years and he'd just do it again...not anymore...problem solved.

Because of the circumstances it can lead to. Revenge leads to more trouble and others might well commit revenge in return and the cycle would go on and on and never end.

Well it might feel good but.......ethically, you contemplate vengeance because you were "wronged". So how can revenge be right. Hold you head up high and proudly be above the *** that wronged you in the first place. I much more believe, in what goes around comes around....somewhere somehow he will get his.

Because it turns you into the person who wronged you; If someone you know gets killed, and you take revenge, now you're someone's killer too. If they are anything like you, they'll want their revenge.
Another major problem with revenge is collateral damage. you never just hurt one person. you hurt all the people that love that person then they try to hurt the people you love..

We know revenge is wrong because God plainly tells us, "Vengeance is mine, saith the Lord!"
If we used vengeance as a form of justice the world would be in a far bigger mess than it is now. If you're not part of the solution, you are part of the problem!
