Nothing new, we've been under the sword of Damacles for a long time. The accidental nuclear launches and the Apophis hit in 2036 is what's got me worried. But why worry anyway, i'll probably get hit by a drunk driver tomorrow before anything else happens.

We;re not going to get sucked into a black hole.

Asteroids arn't a huge threat really. There are some asteroids that could do serious damage to the earth, but there are only a few in the solar system that could actually wipe all of the life right off it.

Really, the #1 biggest threat to earth is ourselves.

I definitely agree with hawkings there. There are serious threats to the planet right now.

But almost all of them are man made lol.

#2 is the collision of galaxies. Our galaxy is going to collide with Andromeda before the sun eats earth anyway. Wandering around the great attractor at 2 million miles an hour is andromeda heading right towards the milky way. I think we have some 3 billion years though, so don't sweat it XD

And by then hopefully we'll have warp technology and it won't be a problem moving to another galaxy ^^;

I watched the 20/20 special last night myself and I find it so typical that we not nature are our greatest threat. Yes Meteors, Volcanoes, and Gamma Ray bursts are dangerous. But like the show said. Nature is far kinder to life on Earth than we are. Climate Change has been happening since the mid 1800's. And with more and more CO2 being released everyday. There are steps that can be taken. But we as a people have to unite together to correct it. No it will not happen over night. Nor will it take a few years. It will take more than our own life times to correct this issue. But we have to start soon. If we do nothing our children and our children's children will not have a planet that can support life. It is time we unite and correct it.

A large part of it is not even good thinking,thank goodness it is not true.
The black hole does not wander about the universe,u will find them in the middle of galaxies,what else do suppose would have enough gravity to keep all those solar systems in orbit around it. Something that is a hundred light years across.
The CO2 part is a complete lie. If u don't believe it measure it ,supposidly it is the main part of global warming. If u measure it u will find that there are 1 to 2 parts per million that is 1/10,000 % which is nothing. I know at the rate we are burning things where has it gone. The rest of the story is our green plants friends that take in CO2 and put out oxygen. The CO2 is food for the green plants. This is important they want to restrict your travel and every thing else based on a lie.

JohnnieB first of all, it was discovered in 2000 that Black holes move around. You're no better than a holocaust denier. in fact worse, because you'd be in denial before it happens which will make it all the worse. If the majority of the world thought like you, the world would be already destroyed.

Anyways yes i saw it, i think the massive gamma ray burst was pretty cool. and creepy. would you imagine watching yourself decompose.... creepy

Yes, I'm looking forward to it. Especially the Gamma burst from a nearby solar system. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. As for a black ho ?

Heard about it -- most of it was hysterical, hyperbolic rubbish. Typical television.
