I like mushrooms as a light meal and minimal, focusing on the mushrooms. The following is my method of cooking fungus.
Sautee it in either sunflower oil, extra light olive oil or whipped butter, dont use too much oil as it will be absorbed by the mushroom untill the mushroom is completely saturated, (and you dont want soggy mushrooms.) add a pinch of salt and fry on medium high heat for a minute or two before removing.
Garnish with fresh sage for a minimalists meal.
OR
Serve with beansprouts and other oriental vegetables (which are grown in USA, ha ha huh?) and/or with a nice light cream sauce
or if you like a good shroom sauce...
the following recipe is from www.ukcampsite.co.uk/articles/view.asp?id=51

1 tablespoon of butter,
8oz of mushrooms peeled and sliced,
1 beef oxo cube,

If you are in tune with the woods and you eat mushroom for many nights, you may notice very desirable results.
