As a mom, I may be able to help you see why they aren't crazy about the idea.
1. It's a very competitive job. Every woman that wants to be a model of some kind (and there are millions out there) are basically against each other for just a few spots.
2. It's a strict field. You aren't the one that makes the decisions about what you wear, what you eat, your hairstyle, exercise, etc... Someone else tells you all these things. The least little change in your appearance can get you put on a diet, or in extreme cases, fired.
3. It's a demanding career. Not only are you subject to traveling when they want, you are also made to work until the job is done. It's not like you can stop after a few hours and try again tomorrow. They will make you pose until they get the shot they want. If it's runway modeling, you are on stage until the show is over with. Then you are usually required for additional poses after the show.
4. Many of the fashions are very revealing and a little too sexy, mature, or whatever for a 14 year old.
5. The career is only for a few years. The demands on your time may make it hard to plan for the future, so when your youth is gone, you may have a hard time finding something to fall back on.
6. The sterotype associated with models isn't always very positive.
7. The lifestyle associated with models isn't very good either.

Talk to them about commercial print modeling for a start. You wouldn't have to do that much travel or work. You could stay in the same general area and work on weekends and around your school schedule, instead of whenever they wanted you to. Print models are the people in magazines, catalogs, advertising, etc... It's less demanding, and easier to get a job. After a few years, you would be better able to judge if modeling was still what you wanted to do. Then after you've graduated high school, you could persue the career of your choice.

It is very hard to be a model. Meeting genuine contacts in that field is almost unheard of. Alot of so-called modeling agencies will offer you classes which can be expensive and DON'T offer job placement when you are done. At 14 being 5'4" is pretty common, so I'm not sure what that has to do with anything. My niece is 11 years old and she's 5'4". You will probably end up being about 5'7" or 5'8". I don't mean to rain on your parade or anything but for the most part, that's almost every teenager's dream. Your parents will have to consent to anything that you do, so if they say no... the answer will have to be no! Also, remember there are beautiful women everywhere. But Good Luck with whatever you do. It can be a huge let down!

I think that modeling is definitely for you. Why are your parents against it? That's the question you have to answer. If you do get into modeling, be sure to have a backup career in business or some other profession. That may be what your parents are worried about. If you and your parents do agree, send your pictures in to local modeling agencies (or nation-wide if you're really ambitious.) Until you get a letter back, practice your poses. Models will be the first to tell you that they're not any more pretty than anyone else, just photogenic. If you want to get into runway modeling, practice your strut and the face that you make as you walk.

Since you're a minor, it would be up to your parents. And it's a very hard career to hold. You will miss out on a lot of the things that your friends will be doing. I wouldn't sacrfice my childhood for something that can wait. Give it a couple of more years and then see where your heart leads you.

Your their daughter and they are worried as anyone would be that cares about you. Its a crazy industry. First and foremost u have to be able to handle rejection...it happens. you may never make it big. if you do make it you have to deal with the lifestyle, always dieting and excersise and of course nudity. But like anyother career, maybe a little more than others, it will requires consequences and sacrafice to be successfull. Good Luck!

You should do whatever you want to. Yes, you should do as your parents ask, but as long as you do it for a tasteful company then I am sure they would come to get used to the idea. Get your mother involved, then she would have a blast i'm sure.
