they're not secret, but i have my own little set of superstitions (or rules, to be more exact). i won't use a penny i've known to've dropped on the floor or ground - i leave these for whatever gods may feel like taking them. it makes me feel a bit cheap, but i'm poor. i used to be compelled to say, "bless you", though inaudibly (where i live, many people consider it impolite to say), each time someone sneezed, and a certain number more, when they were done; it got to the point where i was, pretty continually, just repeating, "bless you", in my mind, in case someone was sneezing, elsewhere). i don't like a hat on a table, though i think of this more as a sanitary measure than otherwise. as a child, the thought of breaking my mother's back fiiled me with almost intolerable horror, so i'd avoid cracks, as best i could. at times, i still pray, "to anyone listening who might be concerned", though i'm not at all sure there IS, and don't expect much out of it. i'm also fond of saying, "thank you", to the aforementioned possible entities, for phenomena i find pleasing, as i'm against the, "please bless me, and let me get a DS for christmas", school of prayer. when i was younger, i used to dedicate the songs i sang, aloud, to the people i believed were bugging my house, and tapping the phone (they were, in fact, tapping the phone, it turns out)... i still, occasionally, address messages to "THEM", whilst in conversation with friends, on the phone. i, also, like to say, "bombombomb crystal meth", and the like, thereupon. this all may be OCD, et al, and the imp of the perverse, however.

Personally, I do not believe in superstitutions.

Some Greeks do not start new projects on Tuesdays and on May 29 due to the fall of the Byzantine Empire by the hands of the Ottoman Empire.

The Orange Show makes it rain. I don't know why. We'll have a month of gorgeous weather, the Orange Show comes to town, and it will rain for a week. They say the grounds are over an old burial ground, and it's cursed.

Always throw spilled salt over your left shoulder. Another thing I do without knowing why.

If you don't leave the room within 10 seconds of killing a spider, it will come back to life, grow up to be 10 feet tall, bite you, suck out your guts, and kill you!

Yes, I *KNOW* it is stupid, impossible, and totally wrong -- so is most superstition. I've had since I was five and it *WON'T GO AWAY!!*

Sorry -- rant over! LOL!!
