I quite like some of them its a way of escaping from reality for a while, I am not keen on American soap as I find them to daft to laugh at.

British Soaps are all about "Drama" and "keeping it real" which is why they often are throwing in storylines that are apparently are happening in real life, but when they do that it can appear depressing and boring so they throw in some British style of humour which you won't get if you ain't British!
Overall the 3 big soaps in UK, Eastenders, Coronation Street & Emmerdale have decent rating figures and have been around for many years (20+) so they must be doing something right!

Well, I am from the States and, personally,the only soap I know and am into is EastEnders. Man, all of those characters are all f-u-c-ked up! I know there are others out there, but, that is the only one I am familiar with. But, there is one with a Middle Eastern cast that I am curious about and one that takes place in a hospital setting. Other then that, they can be no more boring then the American soaps that are on here, sometimes, they are as pointless as ever!

It has a lot to do with what you are used to. American TV is generally more glamorous and focused on wealth and beauty. Britsh TV is less so. For some this might make British TV seem more boring, but for others, American TV/movies can come across as shallow, unrealistic and melodramatic.

I'd rather watch Coronation Street than Passions, at least it moves on in time. Personally I don't think Coronation Street is boring, cheap and ridiculous - but I think Passions is.

i've never seen any but i think canadian soaps are like that too (unless those are british soaps too... on the canada channel)

We have all types of soap in our chemist's shop, and some are extremely expensive.
