Honestly, they're all about the same. As long as you stick with the same machine.. that's better than going to different machines at different stores. They're even best of best machines.. but they all read different. Most all blood pressure machines will be within 5 of anotheri.e. if you're blood pressure is 120/70, most machines will say 115-125/65-75.. so if you're trying to get your blood pressure down or keep an eye on it, one is just about as good as another. (except for ones that obviously dont' work at all.. the wrist ones don't do squat for me.. they read all over the place!)

I have heard that Omron is the best. I have one that is hand pump type and it works really really well.

If you get an automatic, I'd HIGHLY suggest the regular one that goes around your arm (not the wrist type)

If not familiar with taking blood pressure. You want to do it a couple hours after you eat (or before). Not right after you eat.. it will throw it off as your body works harder at that time. Sit straight up, feet flat on the floor., left arm extended with palm of hand facing upward. Rest eblow/hand on table. I always take a couple deep breaths before taking mine. I tend to get nervous with the thing wrapped around my arm.

It's also interesting to take it if you wake up in the night. (not after a nightmare of course). But some people actually have high blood pressure while sleeping and that needs to be addressed since you spend a pretty big chunk of time sleeping. :)

Here's a web site with the different omron ones. They're really great. http://www.healthchecksystems.com/bpdigital.htm

The other thing I read somewhere.. is if you normally have 120/70, pump the machine up to 50 more than your systolic (the 120). I'm not sure if the automatics do that automatically or?? Maybe that was just for the manual ones.
