Although I am very aware of the risks involved and would generally not even consider it, I will be using a sunbed (only this once as drastic measures are required...) and was wondering if anyone can recommend a decent protective lotion.

I'm not referring to a sunblock, what I'm looking for is a protective lotion to use whilst using a sunbed. (and yes I know its crazy to use sunbeds and I really should know better but I am allowing myself this one time due to extenuating circumstances...)

You cannot get any lotion to protect you from the sun bed as clearly using the bed means you want to expose yourself to their rays so it would be pointless protecting yourself from them! The only lotion you can buy is to enhance or speed up your tan and the California range is good - check ebay I've got some good stuff on there before

I guess these girls didnt read the sunbed bit - a sun screen would not be of any benefit of on a sunbed

Why not try a good fake tan? You can get really good results if you use a professional spray tan system applied by a qualified operator. If, as you say, you are only going to use the sunbed ONCE, you will not get any sort of tan at all - you would need several sessions to build up a tan, and then the damage is done.
