I have a after maket carb ( Holly ) on my Jeep cherokee. The inline fuel filter looks kinda big.( I just replaced it with the same size that was on it before ) when i Turn left it seems like the motor starves for fuel just a little then catches back up with it self when i get going again. Im wondering if the filter is to big. does it matter how big the filter is?...I was wondering if the entire filter canester should be full of gas. When its running only half the filter is full of gas. SO MY QUESTION IS: should i put a smaller filter on it?. does it matter? it's a regular inline plastic see through filter. ( I bought this Jeep from an older guy who put the carb and filter on it. Im wondering if he knew what he was doing.

The filter size doesn't really matter as long as it's not getting in the way of anything. What it sounds like is that your gas line is being pinched when you turn. Follow it back from the filter and see if it is resting against anything.

no the size is OK, but if it is the wrong type your fuel pump may not be able to keep up with it, meaning some filters require more PSI to keep it or push through OK, if you did not have this problem before then this is where to start looking, you just need to put a fuel gage between the carb and filter and see if this is what wrong ,or when he change it its on backwards, or some debris got into the screen in the carb the holly has one right at the intake port where the fuel hose hooks to it ,remove it and there is a debris screen and check it out so verify these thing firs then go from there OK,

Filter size shouldn't matter. And unless the filter is mounted vertically with the outlet pointing straight up, you often don't get all the air out of the filter anyway.

I suspect the problem is with the Holley, specifically with the float bowls. Does it have side-hung or center-hung floats? And where did you set the float level?

i don't think its your filter. it sounds like your floats need adjusted. the filter is fine. the rest of the answers would be right if it was happening wherever. but you say it only happens when you turn left. that tells me that the floats are probably set to low and there is not enough fuel to keep moving through the ports

yes it is too big and you need a professional or an oreilly's part specialist to help you find the right one.
