install the new hard drive, set it to slave/cable select using the jumper on the back.
Once its in, it should come up in MY COMPUTER and you can copy and paste all your files into there, quite simple :-)

open up windows explorer (windows key + e) and navigate to the root of your old drive. Click the tools menu, folder options, view. click the radio buttons (circles) so that all hidden files are viewable and system files are viewable.
Now, select everything in the root view and right click, copy. Navigate to your new hard drive and right click, paste. Depending on the volume of files being transferred and the speed of your drives/CPU, this may take a few minutes to a few hours.

If you're trying to duplicate your old hard drive onto the new, my link below will take you to an article on the subject of disk cloning.
If you're just moving files from one hard drive to another, I use cut-and-paste. The exact procedure will depend on your operating system. With Windows XP I highlight the files or directories I want to move using Windows Explorer and then "cut" (right click, choose cut) and them move to where I want them to go and right click, select "paste" and the move is done automatically.
