Terry Bozzio played a $30,000 kit that I saw at a drum clinic. Don't remember the name (hey... I'm a guitarist!) but it was the most amazing drumset I ever saw in my life. I've also seen Carmine Appice's kit - John Bonham's kit was based entirely on his! I think Terry's kit was a Drum Workshop kit, but the BEST drum I ever heard in my life was an 8" "Masters" drum, made in California - it had the best tone I've ever heard in a drum. One of the local musicians owned it.

Carter Beauford (dave matthews band)
- The equipment diagram below now includes an electronics section to reflect the electronics that Carter uses on his kit.
- Carter no longer plays 13" A Custom Projection hi-hats. He now plays a 13" K Custom Dark top / Z Dyno Beat bottom combination. This could be because Zildjian stopped manufacturing the A Custom Projection hi-hats in the 13" size.
- Carter has now incorporated Hart Dymanics electronic drumpads into his kit. An 8" Acupad is located to the right of his main snare, above his bass drum. A Hammer Accessory Pad is located below his Jamblock and cowbell. And a 13" Professional Series Snare is located where his LP Compact Conga use to be, to the left of his auxillary snare. These pads replace the S&S Industries pads that were previously on his kit.
- Carter now plays a 20"x18" bass drum (previously a 22"x18") and a 16"x16" floor tom (previously a 18"x16").
- Carter now uses DW's Hardcore bass drum beaters which replaced his Puresound beaters.
- Carter recently switched his 19" K Custom Dark China (#19 on diagram) for Zildjian's new 19" K Custom Hybrid China. The new K Custom Hybrid Series from Zildjian features cymbals with normal traditional finish lathed edges. However, about 3/4 of the way to the bell the cymbal turns into a brilliant hammered finish, including the bell itself.
- Carter recently added another Zildjian splash cymbal to his kit (#23 on the diagram). However, the actual size, model, and series is not yet known. The splash is piggybacking his flat top ride.
- Yamaha is in the process of pitching their idea for a signature snare drum to Carter. You may have noticed that Carter has been playing a different snare drum during the past Winter tour other than his usual Dunnett Purple & Gold Titanium beauty. During the recent winter and summer tour Carter has been playing a prototype of what could possibly be his own Yamaha signature snare drum. For years Yamaha has incorrectly listed Carter as playing a Roy Haynes signature snare drum, to prevent them from promoting another brand (he has actually played Ocheltree then Dunnett snares). For over a decade Carter has been playing custom made snare drums. From the looks of it (see photo) the prototype is a total rip-off of Dunnett's Classic Titanium snare drum, tubular lugs and all. I'm sure he's just testing it out right now, providing feedback, then Yamaha will make appropriate tweaks where necessary. If everything works out we might see an official press release and snare drum by the summer 2006 tour.
- Carter has added a new crash to his setup which contains cutouts. This cymbal is positioned to the left of his flat top ride. Presumably this is a prototype cymbal from Zildjian's K series.
- Carter recently switched from Evans to Remo Drumheads. He is now an official Remo artist. Ronn Dunnett spoke to Carter recently at The Gorge and asked him about the head switch. At one point during the summer tour Carter broke two snare Evans heads in one night. Also, Carter has a Yamaha Hip-Gig kit that came stock with Remo drumheads. After playing this kit for awhile he was noticing that he wasn't having to work as hard to achieve a good sound from striking the heads and was getting an overall better response from the Remo drumheads. So folks, there you have it. The reason why Carter switched to Remo drumheads.
