in the fall . if you want apples . for next year for more apples you have to stress the tree ( so it thinks it dyeing ) make some bigger cuts but allways take it back to something green dont leave stubs it will rot and stress the tree tooooo much a rule of thumb never take more than 30% of the green from any tree

late winter or very early spring jan or feb is the best, their is no foliage on the tree then you can see better what branches to cut
